A day-by-day breakdown of what to expect after microneedling.

After a microneedling session it is common to experience some redness and mild swelling immediately after the treatment, which usually subsides within a few hours to a day. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect to see in the first week.

Day 1-3

Within the first few days of your microneedling appointment feeling a sunburn-like effect is completely normal. During this time your skin may feel tight, dry and even sensitive to touch. In some cases you may also have some redness which should go away after up to a few days. No sooner than 4 hours after your appointment, you’ll want to treat your skin very gently and wash with a gentle cleanser and cool water. Pat the skin dry using only your hands.

Tips

  • Avoid sweating, saunas, hot tubs or jacuzzis, and steam baths for up to 48 hours.

  • Don’t apply any makeup for the first 24 hours. After 24 hours use only mineral makeup.

  • To reduce swelling or avoid any painful pressure, sleep on your back with your head elevated.

Day 3-5

3-5 days after your microneedling treatment you may notice some peeling of the outermost layer of skin. Due to increased turnover of the skin cells there may be some dryness and flaking. Allow the old skin cells to flake off but do not pick, scratch or scrub at your skin. Be sure to keep the skin moisturized at all times with a high-quality moisturizer.

Day 5-7

After the 5th day following your microneedling treatment, if your skin is no longer feeling irritated, you may begin to use your regular skincare products again. You will notice your skin’s tone and texture continue to improve in the months following your treatment. For even better results, continue microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks.
